why we don’t put their Membership
ID and our telephone number on the
handy key tag that detaches from their
Membership card. We put this information
on each Member’s membership
card, but we purposefully leave this
information off the key tag for our

Over the last decade, the U.S.
Census Bureau has reported that an
average of 40 million Americans (16
percent of the population) move each
year. With such a mobile population, it
can be difficult to keep up with everyone!
USRider reminds our Members, it
is their responsibility to advise us when
their contact information changes.
Since most USRider Members
receive their renewal information
through the mail, it’s especially impor-

Members’ safety and security.
With the rise in identity-theft scams,
we worry that if a Member lost his or
her keys, the keys — along with the
USRider key tag — could fall into the
hands of an unsavory individual. While
our Member Care Specialists and
administrative staff are highly trained,

tant that Members notify us of any address
changes. Regretfully, if we mail to
an old address, it can take a long time
for that mail to be returned to us. Then,
if we still haven’t received word of your
new address, we don’t know where
to send the mail. This can result in
extra fees for a Member, as our policy
requires a Member to pay a reactivation
fee if a membership is expired for
more than 30 days.
To update your contact information,

if the key tag included the Member’s ID
number and the emergency telephone
number, someone with criminal intentions
could possibly learn your home
address — now they have your keys.
Therefore, our key tag has only our
mailing address with a postage guarantee
and a note to drop in any mailbox.
The Member’s membership ID is also
on the key tag in a special bar-coded
format. We’re pleased to report that
this policy allows us to return several
key chains each year to some very
